Bumpersaurus!

Yesterday, we took Max to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History for the first time. My mom and my brother, Thomas, met my wife, Max, and I there. My brothers and I spent countless hours marveling at everything that place had to offer when we were kids, and I was very excited for Max to be able to enjoy it too. He had a great time! Over the years, there has been a definite shift from static displays to more interactive exhibits. The Fort Worth Museum has lots of great hands-on experiences available for young kids. At 3 years old, Max may be a little bit young to understand all of them, but he still had tons of fun, and there were some sections set up for exactly his age group. I think his favorite part of the whole museum might have been the "Bumpersaurus" dinosaur slide in the gift shop.

As I mentioned earlier, this museum was a favorite summer childhood adventure for all of my brothers and I. As the museum has updated, more and more of our favorite attractions have been retired. So you can imagine our surprise and excitement when we saw that they had brought several of our old favorites out of retirement in a new area! Transparent plastic human bodies with organs that light up when you press corresponding buttons, old animal specimens in formaldehyde jars, a suit of Samurai armor, and a sculpture of cavemen performing medicine on each other (trepanning, look it up!). All of them pulled straight from our old memories. The exhibit won't be around forever, but it was great to have a glimpse of what we remembered so fondly.

The only part of the trip that didn't go wonderfully was a show at the planetarium featuring Big Bird and Elmo talking about stars. Despite being a big fan of those 2 characters, the combination of darkness, loud volume, and lack of his usual nap defeated my little buddy. Max decided he had seen enough and we left after only a few minutes. Lunch was a bit of an adventure as well, but after much pleading and a few extra cups of apple juice, he finally ate a grilled cheese and calmed down.
All in all, we had an awesome time, and I can't wait to take him on our next adventure.
